How To Tell If Your Microwave Is Leaking Radiation

We are all aware that microwaves work by passing radiation through food causing the water molecules inside to heat up and move rapidly.  Kitchen appliances have to pass rigorous safety tests before they can go to market, most of us trust them not to leak. How can we be certain our microwaves do not leak harmful radiation?

Easy, but first remember.. Do not turn on your microwave in this test/experiment. Like microwaves, cellular phones emit radiation. Therefore, by placing a cell phone inside your microwave and closing the door, you shouldn’t be able to call it, as the waves shouldn’t penetrate the door.

As the video below shows, a cell phone is turned on and placed inside a microwave - not turned on. If you discover your phone rings even when it is inside the microwave, it could mean that your appliance is leaky, or it could just mean that your particular model is designed only to contain radiation at certain frequencies; microwaves typically have a frequency of 2.45 gigahertz, while cellular waves are usually either 1.9 gigahertz or 850 megahertz.
